About CII – Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre
 

CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre is the “ Centre of Excellence ” of the Confederation of Indian Industry for Energy Efficiency, Green Buildings , Renewable Energy, Water, Environment & Recycling and Climate Change activities in India .

The Centre is a joint initiative of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and House of Godrej with the technical support of USAID – an unique model of a successful Public-Private partnership.

   

The formal launch of CII-Godrej GBC took place in March 2000 during the visit of the US President Mr Bill Clinton to India .

CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre was inaugurated by H.E Shri A P J Abdul Kalam, President of India, on July 14, 2004 in the presence of H.E Shri Surjeet Singh Barnala, Former Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Hon'ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

 

The features incorporated in the building drew high praise from the President as noteworthy goals towards energy efficiency, renewable energy and water management
 
What is "GREEN"?
It is the voluntary pursuit of any activity that encompasses concern for energy efficiency, environment, water, conservation and the use of recycled/recycled products & renewable energy.

In addition to making the business profitable, these activities lead to sustainable development and a healthy economy.

Objective
The objective of the Centre is to make the world a better place to live in, by providing world class ‘green' services. The Centre will promote ‘green' concepts leading to higher efficiency, equitable growth and sustainable development.
 
CII-Godrej GBC building has been awarded the coveted Platinum Rating from US Green Building Council (USGBC) under their Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) programme. This is the first 'Platinum Rated' building outside USA and the third in the world.
Vision
The vision of CII-Godrej GBC is to “Make India a Leader in Green Businesses by 2015”. Towards realizing this vision, a ‘Sector-wise Leadership' approach has been adopted. Efforts being made as a part of the approach include involving stakeholders; benchmarking & skill building, developing islands of excellence in various sectors and information dissemination.
